NORMAN — With an eye on both its future and the importance
of schedule strength, Oklahoma announced Wednesday that it has entered into a
two-game, non-conference football series with Florida State.
The series, which pits the participants in the 2000 BCS Championship game
against each other, is set for 2010 and 2011.
"This series brings together two of the most prominent names in college
football, something I know our fans will appreciate," said OU Athletics Director
Joe Castiglione. "At the same time, we are able to follow a scheduling
philosophy that is very important to us, and that is to ensure ourselves a
strong schedule and the kind of non-conference preparation that best serves us
for entering Big 12 Conference play."
The OU-FSU series will begin on Sept. 11, 2010 in Norman. The 2011 rematch is
set for Sept. 17 in Tallahassee.
By adding Florida State, Oklahoma completes it 2010 non-conference schedule.
The Sooners will play Utah State on Sept. 4 and Air Force on Sept. 18, both in
Norman.
